CLASSES TAUGHT:
Mr. Sullivan teaches the following classes:
US History
U.S. History is a year-long, mandatory Social Studies course, with a GA
Milestones EOC Exam at the end of the school year.
(*Note*: Successful completion of the U.S. History course
is required for graduation.)
Course Description: U.S. History - - The purpose of this year-long course is to provide students with a background in the history of the United States. The high school United States history course provides students with a survey of major events and themes in United States history and seeks to establish a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the events, persons and themes that have helped (and hindered) the establishment and development of this nation for the benefit of “WE the People.” We examine that history from multiple viewpoints, so that ALL students feel their own connection to what I call "YOU.S History."
The course plays out over 400 years of history, beginning with colonization around 1600 and concludes with significant developments in our own time, the early 21st Century. The course includes topics related to Colonization through the Constitution; New Republic to Reconstruction; Industrialization, Reform, and Imperialism; Establishment as a World Power;
and the Modern Era. Milestone Exam required.

Current Issues/Social Justice
Current Issues & Social Justice is a semester-long Social Studies
elective, open to 9-12th graders. There is no prerequisite course necessary.
Mr. Sullivan's Current Issues classes will be taught during the 3-A and 2-B class periods in both the
Fall & Spring semesters during the 2023-24 school year.
Course Description: The purpose of the Current Issues & Social Justice
course is to provide students with an opportunity to research,
discuss, explore and understand a wide variety of social and
political issues currently making news on a local, national and/or
international level. It also integrates and reinforces social studies
skills. Students should be prepared to read a variety of
primary news sources related to these topics, and to
discuss and defend different perspectives in class through discussions,
journal entries, and written essays.
Given that current issues are transient, topics covered are subject to change.
(Here is the link to the Fall 2023 Current Issues syllabus. If a student or Parent/Legal Guardian needs access to the Schoology or Google Classroom site, please contact Mr. Sullivan directly.)
